I know very little about the health of the baby, but it is beautiful and I am praying for Onyx. 🙏🙏
Such Sweat face. And and those eyes. 🤞🙏❤️
Hope the transfusion does it’s magic your so sweet Onyx
Keep fighting little girl!

Omg so precious, hope all goes well 🙂
Precious. Will the baby turn black with age like the mother? Just wondering because of the name onyx.
Very best wishes for your continued improvement dear little Onyx. Hope your transfusion goes well. Prayers for you sweet baby – love you!💕😃🩷🥰🇳🇿xxxxxx
Is this common in baby Alpaca? Or was there a reason she’s deficient? Hoping for a full recovery ❤️🩹
Enjoy playing in the concert: is it bassoon you play?
Do you think sheering had anything to do with her being born early with stress of mom? Is this her first time? Will she be ok? Such a beautiful baby.
You need to see Dr Joel Wallach !!!!!
Praying the transfusion and your wonderful care pull Onyx through this bump in the road!🙏🙏
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
It is so weird! She looks so good on the outside. She is nursing, up and walking and looks so healthy but inside she is needing help. I hope the transfusion gets her levels right.
Sending love and positive healing vibes to this little one. Hope all goes well…
Ok I am praying and pulling for you sweetheart I hope this makes you feel better ❤️🩹 You are sooo sweet and loved by many who are worrying about you ‼️ Sending you gentle hugs
She is soooooo cute…. With her little pink collar. I so hope she goes from strength to strength. She is at the best place to do it 🥰
Onyx is very cute, hope her transfusion goes well, bless her & she manages to start feeding from her Mummy very soon, best wishes sweetheart xXx 🥰
She is so adorable. Fight hard sweet Onyx.
Bless her little heart, hope everything goes well for her!!🙏🌈💕
Hope everything will go well for her. She is beautiful.
So happy her treatment is moving along. Praying the transfusion goes well 💗👍🏻😊
She looks to be doing pretty good, is she eating off mom now?
Fingers crossed for good results after transfusion….. I think you've got a little trouper there xx
Simon spotted The King limping this morning (it’s still only 7am). He’s checked him over, nothing obvious. He is weight bearing, so we will monitor today.
We don’t rush to give pain killer, as the pain will stop him over doing it, but we don’t want him to suffer the pain too long.
If he isn’t better tomorrow he may need to go onto limited exercise (pen rest, with a companion).

You are so educated and excellent with your herd. God Bless.
I have loved Alpaccas for so long, but am very unlikely to be able to have any. This group helps me to feel immersed in their care and to understand their needs. Thank you Mullacot team 🥰
Awwww. Poor shang!!!
Hope he feels better soon.xxx
Feel better hope it’s nothing serious
Oh poor thing.❤️
I wonder if it's his hip or knee 🤔. That's how I walked when I hurt my hip. Hope he feels better soon.
He has a dark spot on his hind knee…maybe natural colouring or maybe slipped in a muddy area 🤔
I do understand the concern. Hopefully he will improve quickly and it is nothing serious. They are all so special.🤗
My boy is the same since being sheared 10 days ago.. Not our usual shearers and I feel they may have been a bit rough with him… 😢
Hope he's better soon!❤️💋I understand about the pain killers as I do the same!❤️You look after them SO well!❤️💋God bless you ALL!❤️XXX ❤️💋❤️💋
Hope he gets better soon x
His knee looks a little unstable. I’ve often thought about using KT tape on animals but you couldn’t guarantee they won’t chew it off x
I love Alpacas and the sweet sound they make ❤️
I hope he is all better soon
Tender moments. You guy are on it. Take care 😘
Oh my… hope The King feels better soon.
Gonna lift up The King in prayer as well.
Thier little voices, so adorable Hope the King is feeling better soon
Could he have caught himself in a hidden rabbit or badger hole?
Sending out healing energies for an easy resolution. Poor baby.
It's injured
Hope he’s ok 🥰
May I know what's the pain killer name please,
There is a big dark mark on his left stifle ….wonder if he got kicked or a bang.
Update on Onyx.
She is still alert and suckling.
Her blood test yesterday showed her total protein in the blood (indicative of antibody levels) has dropped again to 4.8. This is getting into the levels where a plasma transfusion may be appropriate. Our vet is reviewing her today and we have frozen plasma ready if needed.
I’m about 6 hours north of home today, playing in a music concert, so there may not be opportunity to post again to day.
Picture from yesterday, with the temporary outside pen Simon made for Onyx and Claudia. (And Nero with Ureka).

Kate, I’m glad you have music as an outlet for the stress you must sometimes feel over caring for your beautiful alpacas. It keeps you balanced. I have a good friend who plays the bassoon in a local community orchestra. Rhapsody in Blue coming up a week from Sunday. I love Gershwin! ❤️ Thank you for the update on sweet little Onyx.
Stay strong everyone.💪 Must be hard focusing on your music, you must be thinking of home. I hope you can enjoy your music, you deserve to, Kate.

Every year it is exciting to see the pregnant moms and wonder what their cria will be like!
Before being shorn vs after is like maternity clothes in the past vs maternity clothes now. 😂
Aww all the pretty Mom’s look so pregnant after they were shorn. All those baby bumps
Seeing the baby bumps is amazing! 🥰💚
I’m amazed at all you DO post and update! 🤗
Yay Baby Bumps! Thankyou for walking through & introducing the Mum's.
Do the twin pregnancies ever survive? They all look so beautiful.

Busy night ahead. Hope all goes well for the girls x
Can't see the baby bumps for the words

Our planned breeding list.
The male is in the red stripe. Females down the left.
One column per week, each girl only mated once per week. Each boy up to once per day.
Green highlights are sold and won’t be with us when these cria arrive in 2025.
(P) means they are still pregnant, so no planned date to start their matings (usually 17-22 days after birthing, but longer if difficult birth). Once we see this year’s cria, some may change male.
Yellow means they are in the pregnant/new mums group.
Now the important bit! Pale orange highlight means they were mated that date. A pale blue would show they were not interested in mating. A green (very appropriate) highlight means they spat off, so have ovulated and may be pregnant. Two spit offs is very likely pregnant.
Archie and Rio are to be sold. Archie doesnt really have good enough fibre, and I now have enough of his genetics to not lose them. Rio was never intended to stay.
Smurphy and Ivanhoe may be too young to become dads this year, but we will let them meet a girl – they did this week and hadn’t got a clue!
If you’ve worked all that out well done!!!!

Let Brogan cush down with Ivanhoe and Smurfy and tell them what’s what with the girls, with all his studying he is surely the expert among the boys —- or at least he thinks he is!
Very Interesting to see the mating process
Wow

Oh what wonderful news! Good luck in these future days with all of her testing, measurements, etc.
That's the best news I've heard today. Keep fighting little Onyx, you've got this sweetheart.!❤🦙
Awe! So happy to see her there with her mom!
Awe! You got a little fighter there that wants to live.
May God bless this little munchkin and her mama. ❤️ 🙏🏼
As promised subscribers – here is onyx. She is very premature (and dis-mature). Born at just 317 days gestation at 7am this morning. We are doing all we can for her.
She’s not strong enough to suckle effectively. We’ve been milking out mum and feeding that with supplementary colostrum.
Update (8pm). Had discussion with vet. Simon’s just fetching a steroid injection for her. Good news is her total protein plasma test at just 12 hours is already 5.5, above the level for a plasma transfusion. It should continue to rise until 36+ hours. This shows good levels of antibody transfer, lessening risk of sepsis. Prognosis gets better if she makes it to tomorrow.
Post made public earlier, as I think other followers will want to know about her.

Aww praying for her She looks a strong little gal so fingers crossed What is the normal gestation?
C'mon baby. You've got this! Is mama caring for her?
I sure hope she makes it! Who are mum and dad?
Thank you for sharing! How is baby today? ❤️🥰
How many days are they supposed to carry them? Praying that she does OK and makes it.
Regarding the dysmaturity, how can you tell with alpacas? Is it based on the gestational period or are there additional factors?
One of my alpacas had steroids when she was gonna die at 6 months pregnant. Shes running around the field and her ciria come 6th at national. So i got a good feeling for you x
(confused thought the mother, as onyx stone is jet black, but beauty)
Can you put a feeding tube down until she can suckle? NICU nurse here and just wondering.
She is so tiny . Bottle feed her.
How long is the normal gestation?
How early was she?
Our Alpacas
We have friendly, well socialised alpacas, we know them all by name and by their individual characters. Read their individual profiles to find out what they are really like! We have breeding girls and stud boys that are with us permanently, whilst we usually sell all their offspring as fibre producers, lamb and chicken guards, or as breeding animals

Latest Arrivals
Our cria (baby alpacas) are usually born between April and June. I am keeping our Facebook page (Mullacott Alpacas) up to date with news and photos. Please have a look and like us! Have a look at our new arrivals, find out how they got their names and check back for photos of them as they develop. They will be weaned once they reach five to six months of age and can then go to new homes.
Appaloosa alpacas are relatively rare, with Leopard Appaloosa being one of the rarest colour patterns of all. Mullacott Alpacas has four different gene lines and so has an exciting breeding program of mating Leopard and Harlequin Appaloosas to other Leopard and Harlequin appaloosas.

We list our ‘for sale’ alpacas on Alpaca Finder which is linked to our ‘For Sale’ page. This makes sure you always have the most up to date list. Please ask if you have a specific requirement as we may be able to find an alpaca to suit your needs.

About Us
We have owned alpacas since 1997 and moved to Lower Mullacott Farm in 2002, from Martinslade in Wiltshire, when the alpacas outgrew our smallholding there. We have fully renovated the farmhouse and it is now rented out in the summer as a 5* Holiday Home (High View Farmhouse). Our visitors love to hand feed the alpacas and sometimes even give them a cuddle.
